The UWS GameJam
The UWS GameJam is...how to put it...a contest where teams of people sign up to create a complete game project over the course of a limited time period, over a week, at the minute the current time for the GameJam is the first or second week of June. With such a small time frame, the games tend to be innovative and experimental. The Teams will have from Monday to Friday to program and test there games and the awards ceremony held on the saturday.
The Games produced by the teams will be judged on many aspects such as graphics, sound, technical ability, originality, gameplay, etc. The UWS GameJam has a range of categories that all the games are entered in and can win, at the bottom is the current list of categories and the trophies that can be won. Teams can win multiple trophies as all the games will be entered in all the catagories. The games will then be made available to the public to download and play form the official website.
To keep the peace with the world and religions, teams will be asked to make sure that there games are not racist, politically provocative, copyright infringing, etc.
The teams should be able to program there games in any language or format they wish. From PyGame or DarkBasic (xD) to C++ and from Scratch to the Ogre SDK, etc. When the Teams sign up they must say what they will be using as the software will be provided for them. Any use of the internet will be heavily monitored to discourage cheating.
The teams will be catagorised from what they use, i.e Teams that use Game Engines will be in the Game Engine catagory etc. Access to the computers for teams will be from 8am to 8pm each day and food will be provided at certain times during the day.
The judges for the GameJam will hopefully come from each of the universities involved as well as any sponsers that are involved. This is to promote fair play and equality in the teams.
The time scale for announcing the GameJam will be rounghly in september so that students from all years have the time to sign up there teams with the website and all preperations can be made for traveling, etc.
Award names and titles are subject to change or removal.
